INCREASE – Intelligent Collections of Food Legumes Genetic Resources for European Agrofood Systems

New EU publication highlights INCREASE among projects advancing genetic resources and breeding

The European Commission has recently published a new brochure and accompanying postcard showcasing EU-funded projects working on plant breeding and genetic resources. The publication highlights a range of initiatives contributing to more resilient, sustainable and diverse agricultural systems across Europe.

We are pleased to see INCREASE featured among these projects, recognising its role in advancing the conservation and use of plant genetic resources. INCREASE focuses on key food legumes, such as chickpea, common bean, lentil and lupin, and promotes innovative, participatory approaches to managing and characterising genetic diversity.

Genetic resources are essential for ensuring long-term food security, supporting climate adaptation and enabling the development of improved crop varieties. EU-funded projects in this field help unlock the potential of biodiversity for agriculture and contribute to broader policy goals, including sustainability and resilience in food systems.

The new brochure provides an accessible overview of past and ongoing efforts at European level and underlines the importance of collaboration between research, breeding and policy communities.
